ALBANY, N.Y. -- The celebration of a milestone begins at a longtime Albany church. Sunday kicked off the year-long recognition of the First Presbyterian Church's 250th anniversary.

The church organized a public presentation about its history at the Albany Institute of History and Art. Local historian and former State Assemblyman Jack McEneny led the session.

As part of the event, First Presbyterian presented an Albany Church Penny and a historical document, a subscription list of pledges for the construction of the church’s second building back in the 18th century, with the signatures of Alexander Hamilton and John Jay.

It's all just a testament to the church's storied congregation.

“Among the people who came to our church were Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, governors of the state, and people who have gone on to be the original curator of the Smithsonian Institution,” said Richard Gascoyne, First Presbyterian Church of Albany Elder.

There will be another event to celebrate the future of the church later this year.
