If you've stepped outside, you've felt the cold blast of weather that's come our way. Imagine what it would be like, if you didn't have a place to turn in. Our Matt Hunter was at the Capital City Rescue Mission, where they're preparing to fill all their beds in the coming cold days.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Bone chilling cold weather is creeping into the Capital Region this week. With the wind chill, it's going to feel like it's below zero headed into the morning.

Shelters in our area say they're ready to help people in need by giving them a place to stay, out of the arctic weather. The Capital City Rescue Mission expects to fill all their beds in the coming nights.

Volunteers say having a place to stay with these frigid temps is a matter of life and death.

"When it gets really icy and the arctic winds come, we do fill up. We're overflowing, so people come in. They know they can come in, we don't turn people away. We'll put another mat on the floor and so even when the beds are full, people know they'll have a warm place to stay," said Susan Jones, Capital City Rescue Mission Director of Development.

Annually, the mission provides over 56,000 nights of lodging. They also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to the needy every day.

The mission offers these suggestions if you'd like to help the needy during this cold snap. They say food is always appreciated, especially fresh and canned fruits and vegetables. They're also in need of things like blankets, warm clothing and winter coats.
