The sixth annual Neighborhood Food Drive was held in Albany. The event benefits the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.
This past week, volunteers delivered 5,000 letters and paper bags to Albany neighborhoods asking for non-perishable food donations. The group then returned Sunday, to collect all of the donated goods.
One organizer says she's inspired to help people through food drives like this one and she hopes to do more each year.
"I am committed to do this every year that I can do it. I'm committed to continuing sponsoring this event and continue to get as many volunteers and donors as possible because I'm not going to turn my back on this and that's what the problem is you can't pretend that hunger does not exist in this community. Because it does," said Kathy Busch.
Last year, this community effort collected over 14,000 pounds of food.
