COLONIE, N.Y. -- As the long holiday weekend begins, travelers are seeing some delays on the road and at the airport.
Heavy rain and winds in New York, along with winter weather in the midwest, are causing problems for travelers.
The FAA says some flights at La Guardia Airport in New York City were delayed about three hours earlier today. Flights to JFK were not allowed to take off until after 7:15 a.m. due to high winds. Many of those flights are now on schedule.
On Thursday, hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed in the midwest due to a major snowstorm, and delays were expected today.
Some holiday travelers in Albany say the weather is what had them worried most.
Amy Crawford, who is traveling to St. Louis, said, "We're a little delayed, but we're hoping that we get out on time and that we make our connection and get there on time. We were a little concerned about the weather, but it didn't turn out to be as bad as we thought it might be."
Airport officials suggest arriving two hours before your flight, especially if you're traveling during peak hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
