ALBANY, N.Y. -- Each year, employees with Capital District Physicians' Health Plan raise money to give to a local charity. This year, CDPHP chose to fundraise for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region. They say they chose the organization because of the role it plays in improving kids' lives.

Employees were able to raise $26,000 for the program. They say it's been a rewarding experience. And the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region says they're able to serve hundreds of youths thanks in part to funding like this.

"Our agency provides children who are facing adversity with strong and enduring mentoring matches. We have made a commitment that these matches will make their lives better for the better forever and we're able to do the work that we do because of organizations and business like CDPHP believe in us, believe in our kids and believe in this community," said Sabrina House, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region CEO.

"It's like that old saying, pay it forward. Especially in light of recent events you really just want to come together and do something for others," said Jennifer Page, CDPHP Sales Manager.

The President and CEO of CDPHP says research shows Little Brothers and Sisters are less likely to use drugs and alcohol, and less likely to skip school because of the program.
