A floral shop owner receives some good news just in time for the holidays. After concerns it may have to close, Berkshire Flower Company will keep its doors open, at least for now. YNN's Madeleine Rivera explains.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Bridget Brown is smiling today. But that smile doesn't show the struggle she's faced the past few years.

"I had a lot of friends and people close to me tell me, just walk away and let it go," said Brown.

She's the owner of the Berkshire Flower Company renting space on South Street for 25 years. But two years ago, when she found out the owner of the land where the store's located would be given to the city and turned into green space, she took action.

"I began to fight, with a lot of support, the public came forward," said Brown.

She was given two extensions by the city since 2010, the latest was slated to expire by month’s end.

"I wasn't sure if I should invest. I wasn't sure of what would happen," said Brown.

But her worries are over. With the local community standing strong behind her.

"There's really no reason to lose a talented designer such as we have here," said Steven Frechette, a customer and friend.

The Conservation Committee gave Brown an extension this time for the next decade.

"After much consideration, they decided that the business was the best approach at this particular time," said Rob Vanderkar, Conservation Agent.

Taking a load off Brown's shoulders.

"Now, I can get back to business," said Brown.

For at least 10 more years, when the city will once again decide her flower shop's future.
