BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. -- Donated trees from all over the area will go to homes of those serving our country.

Trees for Troops is a campaign that runs nationwide this weekend and all of next week. The trees collected will go to members of the armed forces and their families this holiday season.

Locally, the Ellms Family farm hopes to collect 125 to 150 trees to donate.

Since 2005, local tree farms including Ellms have donated over 100,000 trees to this campaign.

“This is a great thing. We feel giving back to these people who go on the line for our country, we respect them very much and anything we can do to help them is greatly appreciated. We get some guys from the National Guard here to help load the trees and they always share a story every year with somebody who was touched over the years overseas or on base where people are away from home,” said Garth Ellms.

Ellms is offering free Christmas lights to those who make a cash donation. Ellms will then use the cash to buy trees for the campaign. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
