With Wednesday's Powerball jackpot now at a record $500 million, lotto mania has officially hit the Capital Region. As YNN's Matt Hunter reports, one area that figures to have plenty of people testing their luck is Saratoga, where several winners have cashed in big tickets in the past year.

SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. – Chances are if you are purchasing a Powerball ticket in Saratoga County this week, you're getting caught in line.

"It's everywhere,” said Nate Mosher, who picked up a handful of tickets at the Stewart’s on Route 50 and Jones Road in Wilton Tuesday afternoon. “It's all you hear about right now, that's how big it is."

"My daughter is up from Connecticut,” Wilton resident John Munday said. “She brought 12 tickets and I bought five and if we win, you won't see me in Wilton!"

It's of course all because the jackpot has climbed to a record $500 million.

While the one in 175 million odds of winning do not change based on your address, a recent string of local good luck gives county residents reason to believe the odds may be on their side.

"I think they had two winners in here if I'm not mistaken,” said Munday, who also purchased his tickets at the Stewart’s in Wilton. “It is a lucky store!"

"It's just got to be there,” Wilton resident Mary Lou McCormick said. “You just hope you're the one, that's all."

In September, Diane Staples and Ansel Lyman both purchased tickets in Saratoga County that paid out a whopping $1 million. Lyman purchased his at a Stewart’s on Route 67 in Galway, while Staples got hers at a Stewart’s on Route 9P near Saratoga Lake.

While each took home a huge sum of money, it paled in comparison to the $48.8 million ticket Christine and Jeff Pintuff bought at the Route 50 Stewart’s in Wilton last Christmas.

It's no surprise that hefty serving of good fortune has many returning to those same spots that produced big winners already. All seem to think there's at least a chance lightning could strike one more time.

"I would love if it struck this store twice for the ticket that's in my pocket," said Gene Ringwood, a Columbia County resident who purchased several tickets at the Route 9P Stewart’s.

"I can't even think about it because I won't have much of it, my wife will take it all," Munday joked.

Powerball tickets can be purchased until 9 p.m. Wednesday night. The drawing will be held at 11 p.m. and can be watched live on YNN.
