Police are still searching for a suspect in the Thanksgiving Day Hyde Park homicide. Our Christian Farrell has the very latest on the police investigation.

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- "Nothing like that has ever happened here before," said Jason Sweeney of Hyde Park.

It was most certainly a gloomy Black Friday for residents of the Mobile Manor Trailer Park in Hyde Park. They spent the day after Thanksgiving answering questions and watching State Police dive teams search the water outside of 67-year-old Laurie Ferguson's home. Ferguson was found Thanksgiving evening dead in her bedroom. Police say she was stabbed multiple times.

"The troopers have been diving all day long since this morning. What this will do is either locate a significant piece of evidence that would consistent with something used in a stabbing. If nothing else, it's an elimination lead. If we don't find what we're locating, we know that evidence is not in this pond," said New York State Police Captain Scott Brown.

Ferguson's body was discovered after she failed to show up for a Thanksgiving Day engagement. Police say they received a 911 call, which prompted their investigation. They wouldn't say who made the call.

Although married, Ferguson lived alone, according to police.

Friday evening, her car, previously reported stolen, was found on Reservoir Road in nearby Staatsburg.

"A lot of our leads develop from residents of the trailer park and people in the area. It is a tragedy and it's one of those things you put your whole heart into and try and locate the person responsible," said State Police Lieutenant Dominick Chiumento.

"It makes you a little uneasy. I have little brothers who play around here. My friends have kids. I'm a little worried for them. Keeping them inside until this blows over," said Sweeney.

State Police dive teams will be in the water again Saturday looking for a murder weapon or any evidence linked to this case. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call police at 876-4049. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
