Black Friday shopping is in full swing and thousands of Capital Region shoppers have been hitting the stores for hours searching for those elusive deals. Our Brooke Selby has been braving the crowds at Crossgates Mall all day, and has the latest.

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. -- Going, going, and now gone. That's what shoppers who arrived late at Best Buy heard on Black Friday.

"One of the big ticket items that we went through this year very quickly was a 40 inch Toshiba," said Michael Feldman, Best Buy Store Manager at Crossgates Mall.

With a price tag just under $200, they went fast, but that doesn't seem stop shoppers this year.

"Why not, where else would you rather be, no, honestly we come out every year," said Bill Lynch, a shopper from Glenmont.

While many shoppers are trying to march off those extra calories in the spirit of the holiday season, some started shopping the sales days ago.

Shopper Melissa Johnson said she is "done with all her shopping, I finished it last week."

Many of the big box retailers offered their Black Friday sales days in advance of Thanksgiving, but even more surprising was the midnight madness.

"Didn't know the mall opened at 12, I thought it was at five or six, so once I found out I was like yeah I'm going," said shopper Bree Dolan of Scotia

With retailers concerned about their bottom line, many are offering alternate sales just simply by asking.

"Was looking for an iPad 2 and Best Buy only had black and I wanted white, so I came over here to see if they could match Best Buy's price, which they did," said shopper John Zekoll of Guilderland.

While others just came shopping as a basic necessity.

Shopper Lupe Martinez of New York City said she "just came to get her daughter a dryer."
