Coming soon to downtown Glens Falls is project that will turn an old vacant building into luxury apartments and new retail space. Glens Falls reporter Brooke Selby tells us how the revitalization project will not only improve the economy but continue to change the landscape of the city.

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- It's a landmark building, a staple at the corner of Bay and Maple since the 1920s and for years, it sat vacant. Soon though the landscape will change and life will be shining through the facade once again.

"They’re totally vacant right now. It involves about 55,000 feet of space and we’re under contract to buy those to convert them into 37 downtown apartments," said Peter Hoffman.

They aren't your average apartments. You can call them luxury at $700 to $1,100 a month. Store fronts will open again for business too. It’s all an effort by the developer to improve the quality of life in Glens Falls and attract people moving to the area because of the tech boom.

Hoffman said, "The upswing in the project, the restaurants, the activity we are having, the leasing from out of the area, we have people coming in wanting to be in the project, people from GlobalFoundries wanting to live in downtown Glens Falls.”

Some local businesses are even reaping the rewards of that development.

Shauna McTiernan of Minky Mink said, "I've seen a lot more people coming from different areas."

While both the city and local business owners continue to push this community to improve, the investment is obvious.

McTiernan said, "We've all pulled together as a downtown business community and we are really trying hard to do al little bit of branding for downtown Glens Falls."
