The polls opened at 6 a.m., and people are coming out early to cast their vote this Election Day. Our Megan Cruz reports from the Glenville Senior Center, the site of one polling location in Schenectady County.

GLENVILLE, N.Y. – There has been a steady stream of people since the polls opened at 6 a.m., and everything's running smoothly so far, no problems to report.

For some people, superstorm Sandy has made a mess of voting. Downstate, thousands are still displaced because of the storm. Because of that, Governor Cuomo signed an executive order Monday allowing anyone affected by Sandy to vote anywhere in the state.

So, if you or someone you know is registered to vote in a federally declared disaster county with an affidavit ballot, you can go to any polling site to cast your vote. Those counties are the Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester. According to the order, you'll be able to vote for any candidate or ballot initiative that appears on your home ballot.

As for relief workers or emergency responders who have gone down there to help, hopefully you've already sent in your absentee ballot. Any absentee ballot being returned by mail had to be postmarked Monday.

To account for any delays in the postal service though, the window for these ballots to be received has been extended nearly a week to November 19th.

The polls are open here in New York from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. In Massachusetts, the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
